Today, Catholic Christians celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  In the Gospel selection we have today, we read:

At that time Jesus said in reply, “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.  Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.  All things have been handed over to me by my Father.  No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden light” (Matthew 11: 25-30).

Note the command that Jesus gives us to come to him if we labor and are burdened.  Do you know any adult for whom this command does not apply?  Neither do I.  And yet, today there are many people who are trying to prevent people from coming to Jesus because their religious-political beliefs.  They are trying to deny Catholic Christians Holy Communion.  They are making the Blessed Sacrament a political “treat,” rather than the beautiful gift that Jesus gave to us – all of us.

On this Sacred Heart of Jesus, let’s take some time to reflect on Jesus’ love for us and remember that his love is great enough to apply to all of us, not just some of us.
