Today we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi (Body of Christ).

In today’s Gospel passage, we read:

“While they were eating, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, and said, ‘Take it; this is my body.’  Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it.   He said to them, ‘This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.  Amen, I say to you, I shall not drink again the fruit of the vine until the day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.’  Then, after singing a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives” (Mark 14: 22-26).

As the Church Fathers reminded us in the Second Vatican Council, in every Eucharist (Mass), Jesus is really present in four ways.  He is in: (1) the assembly; (2) the presider; (3) the proclaimed Scripture; and (4) the Blessed Sacrament.

It is the fourth way Jesus is really present in the Eucharist, Holy Communion or Blessed Sacrament, that we celebrate on this Feast of Corpus Christi.

The photo today shows a group of youth celebrating their First Communion in Tablones, a community of Alubarén, F.M., Honduras, on October 6, 2023.
