Of all of the churches of our parish, the Church of San Lorenzo (St. Lawrence) in the municipality of Alubarén holds the honor of being the oldest of them all – more than 400-years old!
In fact, in the distant past, this was the “mother church” of our parish. However, somewhere along the line, Reitoca became the headquarters of the parish of San Francisco de Asís. Though I have asked many people why this happened, nobody can give an answer; it is shrouded in mystery.
In the last two years, the church of San Lorenzo has undergone an extensive inside beautification process. Now, it looks very regal, indeed.
Because it is only a ten-minute drive from Reitoca, this church has Masses every Thursday evening and Sunday at noon.
In August, the community of Alubarén celebrates the feast of San Lorenzo (August 10) with a week-long festival. You will be able to experience this beautiful event in August via this website.
Thank you, Fr. Bob, for sharing your life in Honduras through your new website.
I’m so glad I arrived at The Basilica of St. Mary while you were here.
