San Miguelito, F.M., Honduras, is one of the five municipalities of our parish and is about a 50-minute drive from Reitoca.
The name of the church is San Miguel, named after the archangel Michael who is the patron of both the City of Tegucigalpa, capital of Honduras, and the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa. San Miguelito literally means “little St. Michael.” Calling people, angels, or saints “little” is seen as sign of endearment. For example, people often call the priests “padrecito,” or “little father.”
Because the Church of San Miguel is the mother church of the municipality, it has a Mass at least once a week – usually on Sunday, but sometimes on Saturday.
The Church of San Miguelito has recently been remodeled and painted, and it is quite beautiful. Currently the people are putting in a new altar area because the wood flooring has become rickety.
As we will see on Wednesday, the plaza in front of the church has also gone a very major facelift, so the effect of the church and plaza is quite beautiful.
