Today in Assisi, Italy, the Catholic Church celebrates the beatification of 15-year old Carlo Acutis.

Carlo was born on May 3, 1991 in London, England to Italian parents who were working there at the time.  Soon after his birth, however, the family moved to Milan, Italy.

After he received his First Communion at the age of 7, Carlo showed a strong religious spirit.  He loved to attend Mass and receive Communion, and he had strong devotion to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.  He also had special devotion to saints, especially Francis of Assisi, Francisco and Jacinta Marto, Dominic Savio, Tarcisius, Bernadette Soubirous, and Jesus’ mother, Mary.

As a teenager, Carlo had strong computer skills and devoted much of his time cataloguing Eucharistic miracles that had been reported in the world.  Those he put on a website he had developed.  He also liked to do film and comic editing.  On his website, he wrote: “The more Eucharist we receive, the more we will become like Jesus, so that on this earth we will have a foretaste of heaven.”

When he was diagnosed with leukemia, he frequently went on pilgrimages with his parents to sites where Eucharistic miracles had been reported.  One of his favorite places to visit was Assisi, the site that today hosts his beatification.

Carlo died on October 12, 2006 in Milan and was buried in Assisi.

Carlo was a true missionary by spreading the good news of Jesus not by physically traveling his country or visiting distant lands, but rather by using the gift of the Internet to spread the word.

Blessed Carlo Acutis is a patron of youth, students, the Internet, and computer programmers.

It is really beautiful to see youth who have such an understanding of what life is really all about. May we remember that Jesus himself informed us:
And they were saying to him, “Have you heard what these are saying?” Yeshua said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘From the mouth of children and infants you have composed a song of praise?’ “ Aramaic Bible in Plain English
