“Is it Christmas yet?” Millions of children around the world ask that question every day during Advent, for Advent seems to be interminably long for them. Patience is not a virtue associated with children. For their parents, however, Advent flies by very quickly.
If you have a traditional Catholic Advent wreath, you would light 2 purple and the pink candle today.
Today, on this Third Sunday in Advent, St. James reminds us that patience is, indeed, a virtue that we need as Christian people. He says:
“Be patient, brothers and sisters, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You too must be patient. Make your hearts firm, because the coming of the Lord is at hand. Do not complain about one another, that you may not be judged. Behold, the judge is standing before the gates. Take as an example of hardship and patience, brothers and sisters, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord” (James 5: 7-10).
