Advent wreaths are designed to help us focus on the four Sundays before Christmas. Though the traditional Catholic Advent wreath has 3 purple and 1 pink candle, the Honduran Advent wreath has candles of four different candles – red, blue, green and white. Why this is, I have no idea.
The image above is the homemade Advent wreath of Saracarán, a community of Reitoca that is a one-hour drive from the pueblo of Reitoca. The roads to Saracarán are very rough, so they are very hard on our trucks. It’s little wonder that our trucks need a whole new set of tires about once every six months!
