Today is the feast of the Assumption of Mary. Although this feast was not proclaimed as a “dogma” of the Church until 1950, the Assumption of Mary has been celebrated and discussed in the Christian Church in various ways since the second century.
The idea of the Assumption of Mary is that as a supernatural gift to her as the mother of the savior, Jesus, God took her body to heaven.
The image of today is from the Church of Our Lady of Mercedes in La Libertad, one of the 5 municipalities of our parish of San Francisco de Asís.
