This is a photo of my dog Blackie and his friend Chispa. “Chispa,” in Spanish, means “spark,” and that is a perfect name for Chispa, for she is like a spark, darting from one thing to the next.
I more or less inherited Blackie when I came to Honduras to live in 2018, and he liked to hang around the yard in front of the rectory. Little by little, he found himself in the rectory, then in my room, and when I moved to my new house on the Holy Cross campus, Blackie came with me. Chispa is one of the 3 dogs who likes to hang out on my deck, the other two being Henry and Andy.
Blackie likes Chispa, but only in limited doses, for Chispa is a non-stop perpetual energy machine, and Blackie doesn’t have the same energy level. Both of the dogs are filled with love and devotion.
