This the church of Escalón before it collapsed.
I first encountered Escalón, a community of Curarén, on the 4thof July 2018, my second week living in Honduras. The name of the community’s church is Immaculate Conception, and it was overflowing with people for the Mass.
Today, the community is trying to get enough money to build a new brick building. They are making progress, but money is always a huge issue in our parish in which 75% of the people live in poverty. To help them, the Red Lantern Foundation has given money as has the Mayor of Curarén.
The people of Escalón have a good spirit and are doing all they can. Today, the have services in one of the houses until they can once again have services in a church.
