This is the church of San José del Portrero, a community of Curarén.
This is one of the first churches of the parish I visited when I had moved to Honduras to serve as a missionary priest. In fact, it was my second week in the country. On that day, July 4, 2018, I also visited the communities of Escalón and El Porvenir.
On my first visit, Fr. Renán, who was a priest in our parish at the time, celebrated Mass while I sat outside and celebrated Reconciliation with the people. I remember that day well, for this community’s church has breathtaking views of the mountains all around it.
The photo above was taken on July 5, 2019. The community, led by Delegado Selvin Joel Cerna Sarabia, had just finished making repairs to the church building and giving the structure a new paint job.
