Here in Reitoca, FM, Honduras where I live, the temperatures in the daytime are hot all year round. So, it is a challenge discovering what kind of things will grow and won’t grow in heat.
Also challenging are the vast types of insects that thrive on destroying many types of plants, even cacti.
Fortunately, by accident, I discovered that watermelons thrive in this climate. I also discovered though, that they can’t be in a regular garden with other plants, for they demand a huge amount of space and will take over the whole garden.
In this photo, we see Juan holding our first watermelon. Juan is the mayordomo (director) of the Holy Cross campus where I live.
