Today is Good Friday, the only day of the year when there is no Mass celebrated in Catholic churches. This is the day we commemorate the passion and death of Jesus.
Instead of Mass, there is a traditional Good Friday service that has three parts: the reading of the passion and death of Jesus according to John (18: 1 – 19: 42); the veneration of the cross; and a Communion service.
In the above photo, we see Jesus in a coffin on Good Friday in 2022 in the Church of Our Lady of Candelaria in Curarén. After the Good Friday service, the people take the body of Jesus to a hermitage in a procession accompanied by “little angels.”
Curarén is the largest of our parish’s five municipalities and has half of our parish’s 90 churches.
