Today, Honduras and four other nations of Central America celebrate Independence Day. And although all Independence Days are special, this year’s is especially important for it is the 200th anniversary of breaking away from Spain to become its own nation. The four other nations celebrating this day are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.
All through Honduras, from cities to small villages, there are usually celebrations of one kind or another on this national holiday. Usually all children and youth who are in school are part of the parades for the day. There are often fireworks, special food, speeches, dancing, and the like. This year, however, the pandemic has put a damper on the usual celebrations.
In the above photo, we see four little boys marching in a past Independence Day parade in Curarén, F.M., Honduras as guards to keep Honduras safe.
