Today, Honduras and four other nations of Central America celebrate Independence Day, the day that Honduras and four other nations of Central America declared themselves to be free from Spain. The four other nations celebrating this day are Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Nicaragua.
All through Honduras, from cities to small villages, there are usually celebrations of one kind or another on this national holiday. Usually, all children and youth who are in school are part of the parades for the day. There are often fireworks, special food, speeches, dancing, and the like.
In the above photo, we see youth in an Independence Day parade in Curarén, F.M., Honduras carrying flags of the nations of Central America. Honduras’ flag is blue and white and features five blue stars on a field of white indicating the five nations that became free on September 15, 1821.
Happy Independence Day!
