Today is Independence Day in the United States, the day that Americans celebrate their independence from Great Britain and the founding of a new nation in 1776, the United States of America.
Of the original 13 colonies, which became united “states,” today the nation has 50 states.
Americans often celebrate this day with parades, picnics, and fireworks. And although the United States is not perfect, it constantly tries to move forward to create a society in which each person is treasured and treated accordingly.
