On this Fifth Sunday of Easter, we have a selection from Psalm 33: 1-2 that says:
Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;
for praise is fitting for the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp;
with a ten-stringed lute sing him songs.
This is fitting verse for today, for it is a day of great joy. Here in Honduras, as in the United States, today is Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers and mothers-to-be! The vocation of parenthood is perhaps the most complex of all vocations, and without mothers and fathers, we wouldn’t exist! Wow! How amazing is that thought!
This photo is from my former parish, the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary in Wilmington, North Carolina. Here, four youth hold up signs wishing mothers a Happy Mother’s Day. From left to right, the signs say: “Welcome: Today is your day;” “Happy Mother’s Day Mama;” “A Mother is a rose in the garden of the Lord;” and “At birth, God gave us a cradle – the heart of a mother.”
God bless you and your families abundantly today, tomorrow, and all the days of your lives!

Perfect Psalm
