Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Today, people all over the world celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, especially Catholic Christians and those of us who are of Irish descent.

St. Patrick was a Fifth Century monk-missionary-bishop who took the Faith to Ireland.  One of the biggest symbols of St. Patrick is the shamrock (featured in the photo above). He used the three-leaf plant to try to explain the Blessed Trinity.  He told the people that just as there is but one shamrock, it has three leaves.  Likewise, there is only One God, but in this One God, there are Three Divine Persons: God the Father; God the Son; and God the Holy Spirit.

In the United States, many cities have parades on this day in honor of St. Patrick, and people wear green.  The city of Chicago, the third largest city in the United States, even turns its river green in honor of the day, and bars all over the country serve green beer!

So, Happy St. Patrick’s Day to one and all!
