On the evening of Holy Saturday, Catholic Christians celebrate the grandest Mass of the year called the Easter Vigil Mass.
This grand liturgy is special in many ways and features the Blessing of the New Fire; Blessing of the Paschal Candle; the Easter Proclamation; a Liturgy of the Word that includes various readings from both the Old and New Testaments; and Blessing of the Water. In many Catholic parishes, this Mass also features the celebration of the 3 Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism; Confirmation; and First Communion).
In the photo above from 2023, we see me leading a group of folks from the Church of Our Lady of Candelaria in Curarén following the blessing the New Fire into church for the Vigil Mass.
This year as I celebrate Easter Vigil, I will also be celebrating my 81 birthday. God is good – all the time!
