The parish in which I serve, San Francisco de Asís, is a rugged mountain parish scattered over 125 square miles.  It has 40 church communities, each with its own church.  Most people live in poverty, and most attempt to make their living off agriculture, especially raising corn and beans, and raising chickens and cows.

Because of the poverty, and because the nearest city is about 2-and-a-half hours away by truck.  Thus, people in this parish learn to improvise when needed.

In the above photo, we see a music minister of the Church of Jesus Center of My Life holding a homemade maraca.  This community is called Guanijiquil and is one of the church of the municipality of Reitoca, the center of the parish.
