San Carlos is one of the communities of the parish in which I serve, San Francisco de Asís.  It is also community farthest from the headquarters of our parish in Reitoca.  In the summer months (November 1 – April 30), the trip from the pueblo of Reitoca to San Carlos takes about 2-1/2 hours one-way, but in the winter months (May 1 – October 31), it takes about 3-1/2 hours one-way by truck from the pueblo Reitoca.

Like all almost all of our parish’s 40 communities, San Carlos is the center of social life for the people.  On special occasions, San Carlos uses its church kitchen (shown in the photo above) to prepare food for the whole congregation.  The name of this church is the same as their community’s name, San Carlos, named after St. Charles Borromeo.  Unlike the pueblo of Reitoca which is always hot, San Carlos is nestled in an area of pine forests, so the climate is much cooler.
