On this 12thSunday in Ordinary Time, we read in the Gospel of Mark (4: 35-41) how frightened the disciples were as they were being tossed about in a ship during a storm at sea. Jesus, meanwhile, was soundly sleeping. When the disciples woke him up, Jesus immediately calmed the sea and asked, “Why are you terrified? Do you not yet have faith?”
This seems like a perfect passage for this day, because in the 3 great nations of North America (Canada, Mexico, and the United States), today is Father’s Day. And like good fathers, Jesus was telling his disciples that they could always count on him.
So, Happy Father’s Day to all fathers, grandfathers, and fathers-to-be in North America! I hope you and your loved ones have a very special day!
