Today, Catholic Christians celebrate the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time.  In the Gospel of Mark, we read:

“He summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over unclean spirits.  He instructed them to take nothing for the journey but a walking stick – no food, no sack, no money in their belts.  They were, however, to wear sandals but not a second tunic.  He said to them, ‘Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave from there.  Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.’  So, they went off and preached repentance.  They drove out many demons, and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them” (6: 7-13).

In the above photo, we see two priests of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa.  They are at the Church of San Francisco de Asís, mother church of the parish of the same name that is headquartered in Reitoca, F.M., Honduras.  On the left is the outgoing pastor of the parish, Fr. Carlos Lagos, and on the right is the new pastor, Fr. Abrahám Álvarez.  The photo was taken in front of the church where all of the churches of the parish gathered to celebrate Fr. Abrahám’s installation on February 12, 2023.

Although missionaries still go out into the world as Christ commanded, today they take plenty of items with them, such as cell phones, books, and a host of other supplies.
