Today, Catholic Christians celebrate the Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time.  And in the United States of America, Catholics celebrate this as Catechetical Sunday, a day to honor those who teach the Faith to children, teens, and adults.

The work of a catechist is rewarding but not easy.  Not only do catechists have to know an incredible amount of knowledge, they also have to be skilled in knowing how to transmit this knowledge to people of various backgrounds and ages.

In the United States, catechists are blessed with an incredible array of things to help them: videos, books, pamphlets, posters, computers, copiers, and the like.  But in developing countries, catechists have basically nothing, not even a piece of chalk or a blackboard.  It is understandable, therefore, that in many poor parts of the world, it is difficult to find men and women who want to become catechists.

Today, the Catholic Church in the United States honors those dedicated men and women who serve as catechists.  Without them, where would our Church be?  Thank you catechists!
