OT 30 A – Happy Priesthood Sunday!

In 2003, Serra International founded Priesthood Sunday, a day when Catholic Christians give special thanks to the ordained priests that serve them.  Some have called it a second “Father’s Day” just for priests.  The Serrans also remember the retired priests whose service is through prayer rather than “hands-on” ministries.

The Serrans, named after the missionary priest St. Junipero Serra, are lay Catholic men and women who promote and support vocations to not only the ordained priesthood, but also to the consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church.  The Serra Clubs were founded in Seattle, Washington in 1935, and today have more than 20,000 members in over 40 nations of the world.

So, for fellow ordained priests, I say “Happy Priesthood Sunday!”

In the above photo, we see three priests of the San Francisco de Asís Deanery, of which the parish of San Francisco de Asís (Reitoca) is part, singing at a Christmastime deanery gathering.  From left to right are Fathers Pablo, Gustavo, and Bairon.
