Today is the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time, and because it is the second-to-the-last Sunday in October, it is also known as World Mission Sunday.
Pope Pius XI instituted World Mission Sunday in 1926. It is designed to not only raise funds for the missionary efforts of the Church, especially for very poor areas of the world, but also remind all of us of the missionary mandate we received in our baptism.
Most adults do their missionary work by serving as parents, sharing their faith with their children. Some people become formal catechists. While others become what might be called “professional missionaries.” All of us, however, are called to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others, either verbally or through how we live our lives.
The above photo is of two Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Honduras Order, who were visiting Fr. Bob at his house on the Holy Cross Campus in Reitoca. Sr. Dolores Edilda Adino is on the left, and Sr. Lidia Nolasco is on the right.
