Today, Catholic Christians celebrate the Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In 2017, Pope Francis declared that the Church should celebrate the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time as the “Day of the Poor.” The original theme for this day was “Let us love, not with words but with deeds.” The first Day of the Poor was celebrated on November 19, 2017.
Since that time, Catholic Christians have celebrated this day in many ways in addition to the regular ways they fight systemic poverty and serve the immediate needs of the poor.
