On this Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we read the following from St. Paul:
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. Avoid giving offense, whether to Jews or Greeks or the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ (1 Cor 10: 31 – 11:1).
Doing everything for the glory of God is a big challenge to each of us, but all of us are called to do just that. When we hear such teachings, however, we can be overwhelmed. For if you really stop and think of what Paul is saying, you realize he’s telling us we need to be “be good” every waking hour.
One way to approach this kind of teaching is to make it less abstract. St. Therese, the Little Flower, did just that. She called it the “little way of spirituality,” doing everyday tasks as best she could. So, for example, if she was washing dishes, she did the best she could all for the glory of God. We, too, can do the same. Adding to this I would add “be kind” to all we meet. Think about those two things and how they apply to your life. I guarantee, you’ll never be bored, for every day will be an exciting challenge.
