On this Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, we hear the following command in the Old Testament: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19: 18).
These words are very familiar to Christians, because they are part of the triple-love command that Jesus taught as the foundation for our actions. The triple-love command impels us to love God, others, and self. Sometimes, however, we forget the third part of the commandment, the love of self, for it is included in one sentence along with love of neighbor.
How do you show love of neighbor? How do you show love of self?
The photo is of the Sacre Heart of Jesus painted on one of the walls by the Basilica of Suyapa. The heart is a symbol of love.
