The parish in which I serve, San Francisco de Asís, is a rural mountain one having 40 churches scattered over an area of 250-square miles. The “mother church” is located in the pueblo of Reitoca, F.M., Honduras.
Because of its vast size in land area and number of churches for the pastor and me to cover, much time is on mountain roads. In the summer (dry) months (November 1 – April 30), the roads are dusty. In the winter (rainy) months (May 1 – October 31), the roads are often muddy, slippery, and dangerous, for there are no guard rails to protect one from hurling over the side of a cliff.
The photo above shows a typical road of our parish. I took this photo in Rebalse, a community of Reitoca, while my driver Isaí and I were driving through the river on the way to my house. The cattle had come to get some water and were returning home.
