Today, Catholic Christians celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.  This feast day is celebrated each year 19 days after Pentecost, which means it always falls on a Friday.

The heart is a symbol of love, not only romantic love, but also the type of love called charity.  The Sacred Heart of Jesus is a reminder to us that Jesus loves all people, no matter who they are.

Unfortunately, however, there are some people who resent Christ’s universal love.  They believe that Jesus’ command to “Come all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest” is not to be taken seriously.  They believe Jesus’ command only applies to themselves and those who think like them.  Well, they’re wrong.  God’s love has no limits, and in Catholic theology, Jesus is God the Son, Second Person of the Blessed Trinity.

Therefore, we are called on this day to remember to imitate Christ, showing our love toward all humanity.  We do this through “wishing the best for everyone,” and that obviously includes the ultimate love wish – eternal salvation.

In the photo above, we see a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that is in the old sanctuary of Our Lady of Suyapa in the Suyapa section of Tegucigalpa, F.M., Honduras.
