Throughout the world, Catholic Christians, both practicing and non-practicing, are engaged in an exciting process called the “Synod on Synodality: Communion, Participation, and Mission.
The purpose of the synod is to help the leaders of the Church explore topics of concern, how we worship, and how we evangelize. Catholics throughout the world are invited to contribute their thoughts on where the Church is failing and how it can better itself.
Considering the fact that 1 out of every 6 or 7 human beings on the planet Earth are Catholic Christians, you can imagine the incredible number of opinions that will be generated. How do these reflect the Holy Spirit? That is what the Church leaders hope to discern from this synod of everyone.
Each of us are called to participate. Some parishes and dioceses have questionnaires you can fill out. Others have specific “listening sessions” where you can share your ideas about priesthood, human sexuality, missionary activity, care of creation, peace, or whatever. I encourage you to take advantage of this process, for it is once-in-a-lifetime deal, and we are blessed to be living in a time of such a dynamic endeavor!
And even if you don’t give your ideas in a formal way, you certainly can pray for the success of the Synod on Synodality!
