Every year of life is precious, but some contain special milestones. 2023 is one of those years for me.
In June, I’ll celebrate 5 years of living in Honduras as a missionary priest on June 25, and two days later, I’ll celebrate my 25th anniversary of ordination as a Catholic priest. Being a Catholic priest has been my life dream since I was about 4 years old. Why did it take me so long? Long story.
But today is the most awesome of the milestones; it’s the day I turn 80. Fortunately for me, I’m an optimist. As an optimist, my outlook on life is that “the best is yet to come.” I’m happy to say, my life has shown that, indeed, every decade of life has been better than the one before it. Each decade has showed me to be more serene and creative and productive. I’m fully looking for that pattern to hold in the 80s, but I’m fully aware as an R.N., that as the body grows older, it also gets more aches and pains. Well, so be it. For now, I’m simply grateful for a loving God who has allowed me so many blessings, and I ask that I be given more and more years to serve the people of Honduras. But, as always, “not my will, but God’s will.”
