From 1975 to 1981, I lived in Seattle, Washington.  And when I first went there, I found many names of rivers confusing, for they sounded almost the same to me: Snohomish, Skokomish, Skykomish and Snoqualmie, for example.

Well, this month I’m going to be introducing you to three churches of our parish that may sound very similar to you at first: Cuchilla, Cumilina, and Cunimisca.  All of them are part of Curarén, the largest of the 5 municipalities of our parish.

Today we look at Cuchilla which means “spoon” in Spanish.  I have only been to this community once to celebrate Mass.  It is the most difficult of all the churches of our parish to get to, for after driving a long distance, one must then walk for another 30 minutes up and down mountainsides.  I had to stop a few times to catch my breath.

When I got to the church, it was packed with a very lively crowd.  In addition to Mass, I celebrated 15 baptisms.  Though I love the community, I think I have decline returning because of my age.

The church, which was the 76thchurch of our parish that I visited, is dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy and has 10 Delegados de la Palabra.
