I first discovered the church of Villa Nueva in February, 2019. The community is part of Curarén and is one of the poorest of the poor churches of our parish. The name of the church is Sagrado Corazón de Jesús (Sacred Heart of Jesus) and is led by a Delegada de la Palabra by the name of María Irma Escobar Avila. Irma, her husband José, and many of the congregation gave me a warm welcome upon my arrival.
Because of the remoteness of this church, the people don’t get to celebrate Mass very frequently, so when they do, it is a very big treat.
Like all of the churches of our parish, where there is no Mass on Thursdays and/or Sundays, the Delegados lead a Liturgy of the Word service.
