On February 2nd of this year, the Catholic Church celebrated Word Day for Consecrated Life.
Although all of us are “consecrated” to the Lord by our Baptism, some people take special public promises to live their lives according to a special standard. There are many forms of consecrated life. Some of us are familiar with Religious Sisters, for example, and we have encountered them in their work as teachers. Other forms of consecrated life may be unfamiliar to the majority of us, especially those who are consecrated hermits.
At this time of year, we are asked to pray for those who are in consecrated life as well as for those who are in the diaconate and ordained priesthood.
The photo above is of my friend, Sister Marion McGillicuddy, S.U., a Sister of St. Ursula who was a Religious Sister over 70 years. Sister died while serving the people of our sister parish, the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary, Wilmington, North Carolina. May she rest in peace.

Sr. Marion and my husband Ed were bonded together by their Coast Guard friendship. Sr. Marion was a gentle soul, loved by all.
Thank you For. Bob for remembering her.
Sr. Marion could teach a rock to read- she was such a wonderful human being, nun, friend and educator.
