Today, Catholic Christians celebrate World Day of the Sick, a day we are encouraged to remember to pray for the sick as well as those who care for them, such as nurses, physicians, family members, and others.

Pope John Paul II initiated this day in 1992.  Some believe that John Paul II created this feast because of his own illness, Parkinson’s Disease, that had been diagnosed a year before.  Also, many believe Pope Benedict XVI used this day in 2013 to resign the papacy because his own failing health.

February 11 is also the feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Many people flock to Lourdes each year hoping to be cured of their illnesses.
