February 11th is celebrated as the World Day of the Sick in the Catholic Church to remember the sick and honor all the nurses, physicians, family members, and others who care for them.

The theme for the 2026 World Day of the Sick is: “The Compassion of the Good Samaritan: Loving by Bearing Another’s Pain.”  The theme is inspired by the story of the Good Samaritan who cared for the man attacked by robbers.

Pope Saint John Paul II instituted the World Day of the Sick in 1992 to remind us that we must see Christ in the sick and marginalized of society and act accordingly.
