Today is the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, a thirteenth deacon saint who found his way to God through nursing lepers.

The parish in which I serve, San Francisco de Asís that is headquartered in Reitoca, F.M., Honduras, is named in his honor.  The photo above shows people celebrating his feast day.

Though St. Francis is patron saint of the parish, the patron saint of Reitoca – both the pueblo and municipality – is St. Sebastian.

Among the many ways to celebrate this feast is to give special love and attention to animals, especially those neglected or abandoned; planning trees or flowers; sharing your blessings with the poor; and praying for peace.

Happy Feast of St. Francis!
