Pedrero Taxi

Most of more than 30,000 parishioners of our parish – San Francisco de Asís – do not have transportation.  For many of them, it is not unusual to walk hours – one-way – to come to church for Liturgy of the Word or, on occasion, for Mass when the priest is able to visit their community.  And with 41 churches of the parish, most of the churches have Masses only once every two or three months.

So, it is a treat for the people when the priest comes with his truck, for they are able to hitch a ride.  In the photo above, we see some of the folks catching a ride home in Fr. Bob’s truck from their church, María Auxiliadora, in the village of Pedrero in the municipality of La Libertad, F.M., Honduras.  So, 9 times out of 10, when my driver Isaí and I are out to visit a church of the parish, we become an unofficial “taxi,” a most-welcomed treat.
