Although Honduras is one of the poorest nations of the Americas, the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa has one of the most beautiful retreat centers I have ever seen. It is located near the pueblo of Valle de Ángeles (Valley of Angels), where pine trees grow and the climate is often cool.
The retreat center, in addition to having an abundance of hermitages for those wishing to make private retreats, there are hundreds of other rooms available for retreatants.
The retreat center is composed of various campuses. The Priests who work in the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa often come to the campus of Tres Rosas (Three Roses) for overnight retreats, including a “silent retreat” in November that goes from Monday to Friday. (The “silence” part of the retreat sort of disappears by day 3, in case you’re interested.)
There are also three magnificent chapels on the campus, one of them seating hundreds. In the photo above, we see a walkway connecting one area of the campus to the cafeteria. The cafeteria is divided into two sections; one where talking is allowed, the other for silent hermit retreats.
