Today is Independence Day in the United States, the day that Americans celebrate their independence from Great Britain and the founding of a new nation in 1776, the United States of America.
From the original 13 colonies, which became united “states,” today the nation has 50 states. Each state is represented with a white star on a field of blue on the American flag.
Americans often celebrate this day with parades, picnics, and fireworks. The United States is not perfect, for it is composed of humans. However, Americans are called to pray that it will become a better nation in the future, a place where all people will be treated with dignity and respect as Children of God
Happy Fourth of July!
