On Saturday, January 10, 2026, Fernando López became Father Fernando with his ordination to the priesthood in the Basilica of Our Lady of Suyapa. During this past year, he has been working in the parish of San Francisco de Asís that is headquartered in Reitoca, F.M., Honduras.
Fr. Fernando has been assigned to continue working in our parish as a vicar along with the pastor, Fr. Cecilio, and me, Fr. Bob, a missionary vicar from the Diocese of Raleigh in North Carolina. San Francisco de Asís will be one of the few parishes of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa with three priests. That will be a great blessing as we try to serve around 30,000 parishioners scattered over a 125-square mile area of mountains in 41 churches.
The photo above shows Fr. Fernando (in middle with the red stripe chasuble) and seven other priests and four seminarians who came to Reitoca for his First Mass of Thanksgiving. In addition to the priests and seminarians, the Mass featured 20 altar servers, two bands, and hundreds of parishioners from all points of the parish.
