Ms. Orfilia Yesenia Amaya, who goes by Yesenia, is the nurse in Clínica Santa María in Reitoca and is one of the original members of the clinic. As such, she has been part of all the exciting changes and growth of the health care projects we have going in Reitoca, F.M., Honduras.
Yesenia was born on May 8, 1987 and is from El Portillo, a community of Curarén, F.M., Honduras.
Her mother, Rosa Emelda, is a homemaker. Yesenia has two brothers, Juan and Carlos. Juan, 40, is a farmer in the Curarén countryside, and Carlos, 34, works in a company in El Portillo.
Ms. Amaya considers her Aunt Orfilia, who is also her godmother, and Uncle Santos to be almost “second parents.”
Yesenia completed a two-year nursing program and hopes one day to get a four-year nursing degree. In the meantime, she is about 70% finished studying nutrition at the Universidad Cristiana Evangélica Nuevo Milenio (UCENM) in Tegucigalpa.
Among her interests, Yesenia loves listening to classical music and operas, and she enjoys reading novels and biographies.
In the future, Ms. Amaya has very big dreams. She would like to finish her nursing studies, have a home and start a family, establish a business, and learn to play the piano.
Yesenia’s faith is very important to her. She treats all patients equally and gives the best care she can. She prays for her patients and believes that her patient care is, indeed, “faith in action.” She loves the experience of seeing patients recover, especially those who had cases that seemed impossible. Then, she sees the hand of God in action.
