Today Catholic Christians celebrate the memory of St. Jerome who died on September 30, 420. He was a Catholic priest who was also a hermit, confessor, historian, and theologian. A “confessor” is a person who suffered for the Faith but was not actually killed for the faith.
Most of all, St. Jerome was known as a Bible scholar. In fact, in addition to writing many articles about various parts of the Bible, he translated the Bible into Latin so that the people of his day could read it.
In time, others took St. Jerome’s Bible, which was called the Vulgate, and translated into other languages.
