The National Vocation Awareness Week was begun in 1976 by the bishops of the United States of America.  This week-long celebration is held each year on the first full week of November.

The purpose of this week is to promote vocations to the ordained ministry (priesthood and diaconate) and consecrated life through prayer and by offering support to those considering the priesthood, the diaconate, or the religious life.

The above photo shows a former pastor our parish, San Francisco de Asís, enjoying a vocation with seminarians of the Archdiocese of Tegucigalpa on Cayos Cochinos, part of Honduras’ Bay Islands.  Father Gerardo Vallecillo is the one on the far right in the photo.

When I use my translator on Cayos Chochinos, I keep getting dirty calluses. Does that refer to hard working hands, just wondering what this translate to. Looks like a beautiful playa. Would like to see some update from hurricane Eta.

Cayos refers to Cays or Keys in English – like Key West. Cochinos as an adjective refers to dirty; as a noun, it refers to pig or hog. I’m not sure how it to be called Hog Key!

Thanks Fr Bob, that makes sense, maybe like the Bay of Pigs in Cuba.
