Today, Catholic Christians celebrate the 15thSunday in Ordinary Time.
In the Gospel of today (Mt 13: 1-23), we read a story that Jesus told called the Parable of the Sower. In the story, a sower went out into the fields and threw seeds around – which is how farmers planted in those days. Some of the seeds fell on the hard paths, rocky ground, or among thorn bushes. None of these seeds has much of a chance to flourish, and they died.
But some of the seeds fell on rich soil, and those produced a great abundance of fruit.
The sower, in the story, is Jesus, and the seeds are his words. Human beings are the various types of soil. Naturally, most of us would like to think of ourselves as being the rich soil kind of person. Not only do we hear the word of Jesus, but we put it into practice. And because the Lord is pleased with this, he multiplies the effects of our work.
Fortunately, Jesus was very specific in his expectations of us: feed the hungry, forgive your enemies, care for the poor, console those in sorrow, and others.
How rich is your soil?
Always good food for thought Father. Gratias!
