On this 18thSunday in Ordinary Time, we hear Jesus talking with his disciples (John 6: 24-35). The disciples wanted to know what they could do to accomplish the “work of God.” Jesus told them that could do this by believing in the one God sent. So, the disciples asked for a sign, pointing out that their ancestors had manna in the desert.
Jesus replied, “’Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moises who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.’”
“So, they said to him, ‘Sir, give us this bread always.’ Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst’” (John 6: 32-35).
For over 2,000 years now, Catholic Christians have treasured the words of Jesus by following Jesus and his command to “Take and eat” and “Take and drink” his Body and Blood in Holy Communion.
In the above photo, we see Fr. Gustavo González, past pastor of our parish of San Francisco de Asís, with a group of young people who had just celebrated their First Communion in the Eucharist (Mass) in their church of San Martín de Porres in Cacaguá, a community of Curarén.
