On this 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we read the following from St. Paul’s Letter to Philippians:

“I know indeed how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance.  In every circumstance and in all things, I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need.  I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.  Still, it was kind of you to share in my distress.  My God will fully supply whatever you need, in accord with his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.  To our God and Father, glory forever and ever. Amen” (Philippians 4: 12-14, 19-20).

Today’s message from St. Paul is an amazing piece of writing worthy of meditation.  What Paul is talking about is the concept of resiliency, being flexible enough to weather whatever life throws at us in good times and in bad.  And the “secret” of being able to be so flexible is to trust that a loving God is watching over us and will always give us the power to cope with whatever life dishes out.  What an amazing concept this is!
