In Honduras, one finds little stores everywhere called pulperías [pull – pah – REE – yas]. These little stores are often found in houses. Usually, one can find sodas, chips and other snacks, eggs, bread, and sometimes vegetables and fruit.
The above photo is a pulpería named “Las Posadas” in San Miguelito, one of the pueblos of our parish. A “posada” is an “inn,” as the place that Joseph and Mary were searching for when Jesus was about to be born.
Advertisers, such as those for our two phone companies (Tigo and Claro), or soft drink companies (such as Coca Cola), or beer companies (such as Salva Vida or Corona), often have signs. By putting up these signs, the companies help the pulperías get some extra income.
